Introduction

World of Warcraft Cataclysm LogoBack in the day, I built a level 19 Rogue twink that ruled in the World of Warcraft battlegrounds.  Building the twink character was probably as hard or harder than leveling my Hunter to 80.  Below are the notes that I gathered and used to level the twink to 19 (with the assistance of my Level 50 Druid and Level 80 Hunter).

For those that don’t know: Twinks are World of Warcraft characters who have gained the most powerful gear for their level with enhancements such as expensive weapon enchants, leg patches and BoE/BoP greens, blues or epics.  Twinks are mainly used in PvP fighting and Battlegrounds.  Twinks obtain their items through rare drops, drops off of bosses in instances, rewards from quests that are difficult to complete at their level, and from the Auction House.  Twink items on the Auction House can be very expensive and hard to locate.  Twink enchantments can only be performed by high-level characters.  Therefore, twinking usually requires significant assistance from high-level alts, friends, and/or guild members.  However, there are examples of self-made twinks that generate the necessary gold from Auction House trading or other in-game methods.

In World of Warcraft, it is common to build twinks at level 19 and level 29.  It’s rarer to build twinks at higher levels.  With each game point release, Blizzard works to limit players from building twinks.  Twinks are expensive and HARD to build.

Throat Piercers
Sold by Eralan in Ghostlands (above Eastern Plaguelands).  Sell high on auction but typically cannot be obtained for Alliance.

Main Hand sword: Shadowfang (48 DPS) or Cruel Barb (44 DPS 12 AP)

Shadowfang
This weapon is by far the best twink weapon, do not listen to people that say that the Cruel Barbs attack power is better than shadowfangs extra 2 dps and 30 dmg procc. This is a drop from SFK from a guard with a rare spawn chance and an even rarer chance of it dropping. I think the drop rate is around 0.01%. It is a lot easier to buy from AH or spam the trade channel.

Cruel Barb
This is a rare drop from Van Cleef the last boss in Deadmines.

Most put Lifestealing on the main hand sword or dagger.  Some put +15 AGI.

Off Hand sword: Shadowfang (48 DPS, 17.8 dmg, 4-8 shadow damage bolt) or Cruel Barb (44 DPS 12 AP 15.5 dmg)

First Aid

Got to Arathi Basin and buy expert first aid.  That will take you to 225.  This is as high as you can go with lvl 19 – must be lvl 35 to do the first aid quest.

Dynamite: Can be used as an initial attack if you are a sword rogue and have no stealth specific attacks.

Bombs: Used specifically to stop flag runners or in the case of a rogue if they are rooted or frozen to the spot and cannot move, it is useful so that u can stun the enemy for a few seconds while the stun used on you wears off.

Bandages: All good twinks will have a huge supply of heavy runecloth bandages because they can heal even the best twinks hp in around 5-6 seconds. You should also consider having these set up with a macro so that with a press of a button you are automatically being healed.

Healing Potions: The best potions for our lvl will heal around 300 hp, they are quite helpful when you have only 1-2 MOB’s left to kill and you are running low on hp.

Minor Recombobulator: Used to remove a polymorph effect from a friendly target, i.e if you see another twink that is sheeped and they cannot use their insignia you use this item to help them out.

Swiftness Potions: By far the most useful potion for twinks, it takes a bit of experience to know when to use them. Do not use them lightly because they cost a good 50s to make. If you are being attacked by hunters / warriors / shamans who of which all have slowing abilities, i personally think that if they have a good hold on you and that they are any good that you will most probably just need to die. However if you feel you need to escape (you are carrying the flag) or you really don’t want to die, use the pot just before the stuns wear off so that u get a good few yards away before they have a chance to slow you again. I would also advise putting evasion on for this as well because with the new patch with evasion you gain 50% dodge chance against ranged attacks as well.

Thistle Tea: This item isn’t that important at lvl 19 but has its uses, some of which i will go into detail about later in the tactics and combos section.

Heavy Sharpening Stones: At lvl 140 blacksmithing you can make Heavy Sharpening Stones extremely easily, when used on your weapons they add +4 dmg to every hit you do. They can be used on all of your weapons and lasts 30 mins. Requires Heavy Stone

Insignia of the Alliance: You must have a quick link to this on your screen, used mostly to rid yourself of fear, should not be used to get out of sheep if possible because sheep actualy heals you and can be ironically useful sometimes

Magic Dust: Use on an enemy to send to sleep for 30 sec…dmg breaks this effect.  Is now a random drop and practically impossible to get.

Potions and elixir: These include elixir of minor fortitude, agility, strength and maybe a trolls blood potion.

Scrolls – get agility and stamina scrolls from AH.

Food: Food that adds 6 stamina and spirit when well fed should be used such as curiously tasty omelet.

Rumsey Rum Black Label: My favorite pot, its a drink that increases your stamina by 15 (150 hp), it can be stacked with minor fortitude and the food.

Quests

Arena Grandmaster

In SV arena.  You have to get and turn in 12 arena master trinkets.  The first one you get, right click and you’ll get the quest needed to turn them in.  Must have the quest before you get the other 11 trinkets.  9:00 AM is supposed to be one of the best times.  6:00 AM might be a good time too.  Several ways to get it at a low level, most of which involved sneaking in to get it while everyone else is fighting.  You might try tanking with the druid in the stands or some other way to pull them away from the chest.  Another way is to log out right on top of the chest and log in right before the contest starts.

Lucky Fishing Hat

To get this headpiece you must have 125 fishing skill, and 150 engineering if you want to make your own Aquadynamic Fish Attractor to increase your fishing by 100. Every Sunday from 14:00-16:00 game time there is a fishing tournament in stranglethorn vale, during this time you can fish in sparkling pools all across the coast of STV. You are trying to catch a lucky fish called Keefer’s Angelfish, hand this in to Fishbot 5000 to receive a the hat.

2) Drop chance is completely RANDOM
3) If your a twink you must have 150 fishing skill and have 75+ fishing lures with you at least if you want a chance.
4) If you want to play it safe in STV I recommend Jombola island
5) You must fish up a rare angle fish in the “Tastyfish” Pools
6) You do not need to pickup a quest for it. You jut fish and if you have the fish the turn in is on the bootybay docks

Nat Pagle’s Extreme Anglin Boots

Get the quest from Fishbot 5000 in Stranglethorn Vale.  Catch the rare Fishmaster Bluegill.

Yes, you can keep fishing in the tastyfish schools for these, even after he yells that someone won the contest. After he yells that the contest is over (4pm server time I think) you have one hour to turn in your fish.

Unlike the tastyfish, these rare fish don’t have an expiration time on them- even if you didn’t make it to BB to turn in the fish, you should be able to do it the following week (again, the rares, not the tastyfish).

The rare fish for the fishing contest can ONLY be caught in tastyfish schools, so once the tastyfish leave, you won’t catch any rares.

There is no xp for turning the fish in for the rewards.

General fishing tips

Traditionally, the best location for low level characters was Yojamba Isle, which is on the far north-west coastline of Stranglethorn Vale. This is easily reached by swimming south from Westfall.  The island is a very long run from the nearest graveyard, so dying is a major disadvantage.

A riskier alternative is the eastern coastline, near the entrance to Booty Bay. There are about 10 pool spawning in this area that can be fished at low level. There is one hostile giant to avoid (who wades around in the sea), and several pirate camps. The area is close to a graveyard, so you can recover from death quickly. Avoid Jaguero Isle – there are not pools there.

A third option is to fish pools around Grom’Gol Base Camp, and from the base south to the Gurubashi Arena. Only a small number of pools can be fished solo, unless other anglers have already killed nearby wildlife. The area is often ignored, particularly after the winner has been announced. Consider this if the first two areas are over-fished.
